Once in California Iron studied law and became a street lawyer and helped everyone who needed justice without discriminating anyone. Iron became involved in the American Indian Movement (AIM) and came under the observation of COINTELPRO, a branch of FBI which aimed at eliminating the anti war and other social activities in the 60s (Warrior, n.d. ). In 1976 there was an attempt made on his life due to which he decided to move to the Texas-Oklahoma border where he started a business with his Vietnam friends. His jail life began in 1977 when he was arrested in Texas and held incommunicado for approximately ten months. He was held responsible for the crimes committed by the local men who resembled him in appearance. Iron fought the wrong charges against him in propria personna and stood victorious in most cases. In 1978 he was severely beaten up on the orders of Assistant Warden. His head was shaved and his TRO, which prohibited the cutting of hair due to religious reasons, was also torn into pieces (Thunderhorse, 2006). In the 1980s he took his kidnapping charge to the Supreme Court and overturned it. At that time the Texas government had passed a law, which did not allow the inmates access to their files. Due to this law Iron was unable to prove the fact that 99 years was a mistake. In 1981 his testimony to make Texas jails less cruel resulted in six assassination attempts on him (ACQTC, 2006). Iron’s physical condition was perfect when he first went to the jail. However, the torture and the non-provision of the medical aid at the jail and fighting in self-defense have made him virtually blind. Iron has complained of having corneal dystrophy, cataracts and open angle glaucoma. Authorities have refused to allow him a proper wash and medical check up after the pepper spray attack. The authorities were well aware of the fact that Iron was suffering from allergic rhinitis and sebhorric dermatitis, which prohibited the use of pepper spray. They also confiscated his medical pass that prohibited him to be hand cuffed behind his back due to his crippled arm (Warrior, n.d. ). Along with the problems mentioned above Iron suffers from high blood pressure, cardiac arrhythmia, sleep apnea, and recurrent shingles. At the same time he has only one lung working. These problems were further worsened with the attempts on his life. Still he was not allowed to visit any doctor by the jail authorities.

Compare and Contrast Two Social Science Views about the...

Without knowing it, social order is very important in everyday life. As Elizabeth Silva says ‘social order is a key principle of living together’ (Reflections on Ordered Lives, 2009, Audio). The ordering of social life can be looked at in many ways. However, two theories stand out when looking at the making of social order, that of Erving Goffman and Michel Foucault. Both of these theories are concerned with how society is produced and, more specifically, how social order is made and remade. While the two theories aim to understand a broad picture of understanding society, they do so in very different ways. They both split the big questions down into smaller ones, Goffman looks at how an individual creates order, and Foucault looks at how†¦show more content†¦Foucault argues that it is the people who have authoritative knowledge, particularly those in positions of power that create social order. He likens people’s everyday interactions to a stage, where the front of stage is where people put on ‘performances’ to meet the demands of maintaining social order, and backstage as a place where an individual could let go of that (Silva, 2009, p.317). Foucault looks at the micro level, but also sees the big picture, the macro level of social order. Do you know why Christmas is so important? Well, you get a 2 weeks of vacation from school! Its the celebration of Jesus being born.Christmas is the time where you ND your family connect as one. Its also the time to be thanking for what you have. Christmas is the day for you to open all your wonderful presents! Its a relief when you cant wait any longer to tear up one of your presents under the tree. In fact I like are with family, either talk to them or just listen to what they have experienced, I also like the food and everyone is happy, the only thing wrong is that in the house are only two bathrooms and sometimes I have to sleep in single bed with two of my cousins but the good thing is that it is only once in a while. Ya en la tarde cuando todo se esta cocinando y no quedan muchas cosas por hacer, subo al curto de mi prima para y mientras vemos television o navegamos en internet nos ponemos a platicar para estar al dia Al anochecer nuestra demas familia va llegando poco a poco, mientras tanto entre mi prima y yo ponemos la mesa y vamos acercando la comida que ya esta terminada, para cuando dan las doce ya todos estamos juntos y comenzamos a cenar, dos horas mas tarde los mayores se quedan platicando en la mesa mientras los primos nos vamos a la sala a ver tv o jugar videojuegos. En si me gusta la convivencia con familia, ya sea platicar con ellos o solo escuchar sobre lo que han vivido, tambien me gusta la comida y que todos estan felices, lo unico malo es que solo hay dos banos y que a veces me toca dormir en una cama individual con dos de mis primas, pero lo bueno es que solo es de vez en cuando.
